Roofing Tiles

Dallas/Fort Worth TX Tile Roof Installation ContractorRoofing tiles can be ceramic (e.g., clay fired at a high temperature) or fabricated from cement concrete. Some of the lighter types use fibers (e.g., cellulose) added for strength. The color of a tile may be dispersed throughout, or it may be applied in the form of a coating. Perhaps the most venerable type of roof tile is the Spanish style red barrel tile made from fired clay. The modern version of this tile is sometimes a cement tile with a suitable coating.

The following is a sample listing of a few of the types of tile roofs. Your Dallas/Fort Worth TX roofing contractor has experience with all types of tile roof.

Hollow tile:

Tile with curved drainage part. This type of tile is suitable for roof pitches down to 25.

Hollow interlocking tile:

Tile with curved drainage part and a head interlocking. This type of tile gives an undulating effect to the roof and is suitable for low and high-pitched roofs. Minimum pitch (with underroof) between 22 and 25, depending on the type of tile.

Slightly curved interlocking tile:

Tile with flat interlockings and flat drainage part. The tile has a nosing, which gives a slightly undulating effect to the roof. This type of tile is suitable for low and high-pitched roofs. Minimum pitch between 20 and 25 (with underroof), depending on the type of tile.

Flat tile with interlockings:

The drainage part has a central ridge, which creates a major mechanical resistance. The shape of the tile gives a slightly undulating effect to the roof. This type of tile is suitable for roof pitches down to 25 (with underroof).

Flat interlocking tile:

Flat tile with interlockings and flat drainage part. These tiles make the roof look flat.  This type of tile is suitable for roofs with a minimum pitch in between 24 and 35 (with underroof), depending on the type of tile.

Plain tile:

Plain tiles are small flat tiles that are laid in broken bond. Because of the heavy overlapping, only 1/3 of each tile is visible. These tiles make the roof look flat. This type of tile is only suitable for roofs with a minimum pitch of 35 (with underroof).
